Obituary for Charles S. Grover

Charles S.  Grover
Charles Sumner Grover, age 84 of Medfield where he has been a resident for over 50 years, died after a brief illness on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Thomas Upham House in Medfield.

Born in Walpole, he was the son of the late Charles H. Grover Jr. and Mildreth (Bean) Grover and was educated in the Walpole School system with the class of 1946.

A long time employee of the Town of Medfield as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Mr. Grover was also a member of the Medfield Volunteer Fire Department for many years until his retirement in 1993.

A World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he did his tour of duty as one of the youngest to enlist during the Second World War and was based in Argentia, New Foundland and the Marianas, Guam.

Mr. Grover was a big fan of the Big Band Era and enjoyed traveling to the many dance halls in the area dancing to his heart’s content, loved country and western music and traveled extensively.

Husband of the late Eva H. (Ippoliti) Grover, he leaves 2 sons Stephen H. Grover and Robert R. Grover both of Medfield, a grandson Jeffrey Charles Grover and his wife Jamie and great granddaughter Julia Rose Grover all of Franklin. He is also survived by his companion Mary Gillis of Medfield and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 10th at 11:00AM at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield and burial with military honors will follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.

Funeral home visiting hours will be Sunday, December 9th from 2:00 to 5:00PM with honors presented by the Medfield Police Department led by Chief Robert Meaney and the Medfield Fire Department led by Chief William Kingsbury.
