Obituary for Alvah Newcomb Crosby

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Alvah N Crosby of Walpole, Massachusetts at the age of 93 on April 11, 2022

Al was the youngest child of Charles Crosby and Emma Idman, born on September 29th 1928. He had 1 half-brother, "Hawk" Holman , 2 "full" brothers, Ralph and Charles and one sister, Annie. He is survived by his wife Nellie and his 3 children Kristine, Charles, and Jeanette. Through these children he had 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, two of whom sadly passed away.

Al is a past master of the Mason's and was an electrician for most of his working life, for many years working 2 jobs to provide for his family. He most recently worked as the electrical inspector for the town of Walpole.

He worked well into his 80's and he played well into his 80's, touring by motorcycle throughout the United States for many years with his wife Nellie joining him in the side car and his sister-in-law Madelyn Boyden on the back. He won many awards for being the oldest rider at rallies and it was a sad day when he sold the Harley.

He was a lover of animals and they clearly loved him. Many many pets over the years have been lucky enough to have him as their friend to the end.

He loved to putter - taking things apart, putting things together, and just figuring things out. His cellar and garage full of things that others had discarded and he had fixed or used somehow.

He was a man of strong opinions and once even ran for selectman in an effort to make a difference in the town of Walpole.

At the age of 84 he traveled to Sweden to visit his mother's homeland and meet some of his relatives. He was an inspiration to seniors who may think they are too old to have such adventures.

And then there's the HAT. The black hat that once it landed on his head didn't come off unless he was going to bed. It became his signature. People didn't recognize him without it

He always said that age is just a number and that is how he lived his life, taking risks, trying new things, exploring new places. Rest In Peace, Alvah.

There will be a private family graveside service.
