Obituary for Angelina Balcom (DeFlumero)

Of Medfield, passed peacefully into eternal slumber on April 3, 2024 with family at her bedside.

Angie was born in Medfield where she spent the whole of her life on September 20, 1928.  She was the daughter of Italian immigrants Nicholas and Angelina (Losco) DeFlumera.  She was raised and graduated from Medfield High School.  After school she worked at the nationally renowned Tophias Hat Factory for 15 years. She and Clayton married on April 25, 1952.  When Calyton returned from Korea, she stopped working so they could concentrate on starting their family.

Angelina could frequently be found, donning her apron, cooking and baking for family, friends, and neighbors.  She loved to entertain on the summer weekends where friends and family would gather to enjoy the swimming pool and to feast on the endless supply of barbeque and Italian food.  There would be softball games and the occasional live band, and it was not unheard of, that the Medfield Police late shift would stop in for a snack.  She had a gift for hospitality.

She loved to dance to the big bands and swing, trips to California to visit kids and grandkids, frequent bus trips up and down the east coast and out to the Midwest where she met some wonderful fellow travelers.

She was most proud of her family; her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Angelina was the beloved husband of the late Clayton M. Balcom. Loving mother of Robert Gentili and his wife Kathleen of Vacaville, CA, Debra (Balcom) Roman of Millis, Kenneth Balcom and his wife Laura of Myrtle Beach, SC and Glen Balcom of Sacramento, CA.  She is also the beloved sister of Caroline Landers of Franklin, Anna Plichta of Milford, and was sadly predeceased by sisters Florence Newcombe, Antoinette Coleman, and brothers Emilio DeFlumera, Lawrence DeFlumera, and Pasquale DeFlumera.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated for Angelina on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 12:00 noon, at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield, MA 02052, followed immediately by burial at Vione Lake Cemetery, Medfield.  Visiting hours will precede the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
