Antonino Ernesto Giliberto passed away peacefully at home early in the morning of March 28th, 2019. He was blessed to recently have celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends in his most recent home town of Sierra Vista, AZ.
Tony, as he was known to friend and family alike, was born in Boston, MA on March 13th, 1929. He was the son of Margherita and Giovanni, immigrants from Messina, Sicily. He was married to Lydia (Raimondi) Giliberto in 1955 and with whom he spent 45 years together. Lydia preceded him in death in 2000.
He is survived by his three sons, Mark, Stephen & John, his daughter-in-law Lori, and his adored grandsons, Matthew and Elijah.
In 1946, he became a lifelong brother in arms to all those such as he who offered their lives and their honor as a member of The United States Marine Corps. After leaving the Marine Corps and starting a family, he enjoyed a long career at the New England Telephone company from where he retired. Late in life he took on a new adventure in joining his son, John, and his family and relocating to Arizona. There he liked to spend his time with friends as a member of the local Marine Corps League of which he’d remained a tireless supporter for many years in both Massachusetts and Arizona. Also, as a very proud Italian-American he helped bring to life the Italian American Social Club in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
A viewing will be held 9:00-10:00am on April 11th at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home – 90 Curve Street Millis, MA 02054. Immediately following the viewing there will be a memorial Mass held at 10:30AM at St Thomas The Apostle Parish - 82 Exchange Street, Millis, MA 02054.
