Barbara Allan Carlisle, 95, of Medfield, died Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley.
Born in Natick, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Marguerite (Mason) Allan. She was a graduate of Medfield High School, class of 1943, and Sargent College, class of 1947. She was a retired physical education teacher and worked in the Dover School System at the Chickering School for many years.
She was the wife of the late Scott Carlisle, mother of Nancy D. Carlisle (Leon LaFreniere) of Concord, NH; Stewart Carlisle (Hope Carlisle) of Franklin; and Clayton Carlisle (Lisa Carlisle) of Jamestown, RI; grandmother of Sarah Genkos and her husband John, and Alexander, Stephanie, Spencer, Hayley and Benjamin Carlisle. She was the sister of the late Robert Allan, David Allan and Nancy Darby, and grandmother of the late Leigha E. Carlisle.
A life-long resident of Medfield, except for teaching in Auburn Maine for five years after college, Barbara was a true townie. From her horseback riding days in younger years, to her retirement years, she loved Medfield. She was proud to be named the fastest typist in her high school class, and especially proud that she learned how to play so many different sports in her college years. She loved watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots and could always give you a recap of last night’s game if you missed it.
She was in constant motion around town. On any given day, she could be seen driving her 5-speed Toyota with the stick shift to the Medfield transfer station, Shaw’s, CVS, Randy’s, the hairdresser and of course, the United Church of Christ for Sunday services. She made countless friends around town along her life’s journey, many of whom helped her live independently at home until just a few months ago. Her Medfield pride was always evident, and she lived her life the way she wanted.
Funeral services will be held at the United Church of Christ, 496 Main St., Medfield on Wednesday September 8 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Philip Bauman, pastor officiating. Visiting hours at the Roberts-Mitchell-Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield on Tuesday September 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.
