Obituary for Peter O. Johnson

Currently residing in Palm Coast, FL & Millis, MA, Peter was born in Amsterdam, NY in 1936. An alumnus of Nott Terrace HS, class of 1954, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bryant College (now University), in Smithfield, RI, with his accounting degree. He relocated to the Boston area with his young family, beginning his career as a tax manager with the Arthur Andersen accounting firm and was subsequently hired by the Sheraton Hotel Corp, travelling the world & rising to the position of Vice President and Director of Taxes, before his retirement, 22 years ago.

A passionate motorcyclist for most of his life, in retirement, he also found “Geocaching” and loved sharing the adventures involved in his almost 13,000 “finds”. Peter’s larger than life presence will continue to live in the hearts & memories of all those whose lives he has impacted.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Sandra (Miller) but considered himself blessed to find and marry, the love of his life, Meredith (MacAuley) in 1991. He was a remarkable dad to Valerie LaCount of Chelsea & her husband, Kevin and Erick Johnson of Weymouth & his fiancee, Liz Metcalf. He was way more than a step-dad to Melissa Conroy of Franklin & her husband, Tom, Elin Newton of Holly Springs, NC, and Brittany Hardiman of Medfield & her husband Brian. He was the loving “Grumpy” to Branigan Reed, her husband Dewayne, and his great grandson, Vaugn, Damien Dakotah LaCount, Kelsey, Ashley, Emily, & Lindsey Conroy, and Molly, Charlie, & Willy Hardiman. He is also survived by his extended family, friends, & neighbors in Massachusetts & Florida, who will share “Grumpy” anecdotes for years to come! The world is better for you having shared your presence.

Visiting hours will be Monday, Dec. 10th from 4 to 7pm at Roberts Mitchell Caruso FH, 15 Miller St., Medfield. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 11th at 10am at the Medway Community Church, 196 Main St., Medway, MA. Burial will be private.
