Obituary for Charles E Demery

Charles E. Demery (Charlie), 95 of Franklin formerly of Medway, MA died peacefully at Leonard Morse Hospital, Natick, MA on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. Born on December 17, 1923 in Medway, MA he was the son of the late Charles E. Demery of Millis, MA and the late Eula E. (Hines) Demery of Louisiana.
Charlie graduated from High School and began working at Bird & Son, Company, Walpole, MA. as a machine operator and foreman for 42 years until his retirement in 1986. He is also a retired member of the New England Teamsters & Trucking Industry Union Local No. 25. He was happily married for 35 years to Della H. (Davis) Demery of Belvidere, VT. He enjoyed visiting and attending all family occasions. In 1963, Charlie built their house, including clearing the land, and digging the sewer and trenches by hand. He was certified in small engine repair which he enjoyed repairing engines as a hobby during his life.
He loved to ride motorcycles. In 1957, he purchased a new Hydra-Glide Harley-Davidson motorcycle and followed his dream to travel across the country during a three-month vacation. He wrote an article of his adventures on his 15,000-mile journey which was published in ‘The Enthusiast” Harley-Davidson magazine for motorcyclists. Charlie also loved the outdoors and gardening. He was known to grow vegetables and share them with everyone. He also loved jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed spending many hours with family and friends to complete them.
Charlie is predeceased by his wife Della H. (Davis) Demery, his parents, Charles E. Demery of Millis, Eula E. (Hines) Demery and his sister, Ethel M. (Demery) Howes of Bellingham, three stepsons: Roderick M. Washer of Franklin, Frederick L. Washer, Maine and Francis E. Washer of Woonsocket, R.I. and stepdaughter Rebecca J. (Washer) Richardson of Millis. He is survived by his stepdaughter Joyce E. Keefe of Mendon, and stepsons Jason H. Washer of Wrentham, and Alan D. Washer of Norton. Charlie also leaves a nephew, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He had tremendous love for his family, neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed.
A private burial service was held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis MA.
