During her lifetime, Jean spent her "spare time" in many church and community activities, including Little League Coach in 1968, and the Medfield Drill Team. She played the piano and conducted "sing-a-longs" at the Medfield Nursing Home and Medfield State Hospital. Jean was the first Secretary of the Medfield Police Department starting in 1971. She was also active in St. Edward's Church, including Organist and Choir Director 1970-1979, President of the Parish Council, CCD Coordinator for Confirmation, and Lector. Jean and her husband, John, teamed up as Adult Advisors to the CYO, organizing trips and events such as retreats and paper drives, social and community activities, including Bike Rides for Life. She was a volunteer for Birthright, and in 1974, she and daughter, Tricia, were awarded commendation medals by Cardinal Medeiros for their Pro-Life work.
Jean was a faithful rooter at the many games and sports in which her children participated during their school years. She loved sewing and needlepoint, growing houseplants, playing bridge, the New England Patriots, Bermuda, "Einstein" - her Miniature Dachshund, and "Lucy" - her black Cocker Spaniel, cooking and entertaining, especially pool parties for friends, neighbors and kids' groups. The Raffin family lived at 3 Flint Locke Lane from 1961 to 1983.
In her later years, Jean enjoyed working on her computer, especially making the greeting cards that she sent to family and friends, and printing the photographs that she took with her digital camera. After leaving Medfield, she lived in Waltham, Sandwich, and in 2000, moved to Franklin, where she continued volunteer work as the first pianist for the "Franklin Singing Seniors", a group that performed for various audiences in Franklin and neighboring communities.
Jean's last years were filled with delight watching all her grandchildren grow, sewing pajamas and nightgowns for them, and doll clothes for their "babies", and giving piano lessons to three of them. Jean took much pride in their accomplishments in school, sports, and other activities.
Funeral Mass will be Monday July 6th 1130am at St. Edward the Confessor Church. Burial to follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
