Obituary for Barbara M. McTernan
It is with deep sorrow and heartache, the family and friends mourn the loss of Barbara M. McTernan of Medfield, Massachusetts on August 18, 2020. She passed away peacefully at home with her family. Barbara was born on January 20, 1969 in Dorchester, MA. She lived in West Roxbury for many years, and has resided in Medfield for 37 years.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Vincent McTernan. Barbara leaves behind her mother, Mary A. McTernan, Brother, John W. McTernan and his wife Kathy M. McTernan and nephew Brendan Jacob McTernan of Norwood, the Clancy family of Norwood, MA and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews throughout Ireland, England and Scotland.
Barbara was a very happy child with great personality which she had all through her life. She loved animals from the beginning and owned several dogs, cats and rabbits. During her teenage years she became an accomplished equestrian. She made friends with everyone wherever she went.
She became a Flight Attendant for U.S. Airways which later became American Airlines, for several years. She had the opportunity of seeing most of this beautiful United States and much of Europe. She was working for U.S. Air during that tragic day of 9/11. Luckily, she was safe in Seattle with her crew. The airline industry has experienced many changes since then.
Reflecting back, she was thankful for the exciting and wonderful life she experienced. Barbara had a great sense of humor. Some of her favorite television programs were “Bugs Bunny, The Three Stooges, The Jefferson’s and Sponge Bob.” She read every book that was ever printed about “All Creatures Great and Small” several times over. Her motto was “don’t take yourself too seriously”. Barbara, life will not be as happy without you. We will love and remember you forever, Mom, John, Kathy, Brendan, and all whom ever knew you.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 11:30 AM, at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring St., Medfield, MA 02052, after which the family will attend a private burial.
