Obituary for Charles "Chick" Seavey

Charles “Chick” Seavey, 74, passed away on Thursday, November 24, from complications following a heart attack. Chick will be remembered as an avid outdoorsmen, skilled craftsman, and committed curmudgeon.

Born in 1948 to Charles and Mary Seavey, Chick was a lifelong Medfield resident. After graduating from Medfield High School in 1966, he joined S.E. Luttazi and Son’s out of Dover where spent the next few decades. Later in life, Chick worked for Dover Trucking and was a custodian in the Medfield Public School system. While Chick took pride in all of his work, it was his work with the Medfield Fire Department that gave him the most satisfaction. He joined the department in 1970 and retired in 2013 as the Deputy Chief after forty-three years of service.

In his personal life, Chick made things. He caught fish with fly rods that he built himself using flies that he tied. When he wanted to take up bow hunting, he first taught himself to make his own bow and fletch his own arrows before going out to shoot a deer. He built furniture and carved sculptures. He even built his own cabin in Maine.

Chick was a born craftsman but he made other things too. He made friends. He made an impression. He left a legacy. He will be remembered for the people he helped. The new hires he mentored. The hours spent helping distraught middle schoolers open their milk cartons. And the family and friends who will carry on his memory for years to come.

Chick was predeceased by his parents Charles and Mary Seavey. He is survived by his two sisters, Dianne Reed and Cathy Beggs. His three nephews, Tobey Reed, Paul Beggs, and Charles Beggs. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 3-7pm at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home in Medfield, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the Medfield Firefighters Relief Association in his name.
