Obituary for Christopher J "Smitty" Smith

Christopher John Smith, of Millis, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Tuesday morning August 30th at the age of 51.

Born in 1971 in Boston, MA, Christopher grew up in Natick, MA graduating from Natick High School in 1989. He then attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst earning his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1993. Chris served as an Emergency 911 Dispatcher with the Town of Natick prior to joining Fidelity Investments in 1999, most recently as Senior Director; FI Data Governance & Strategy. In addition, from 2008 thru 2016 he served on the Millis Finance Committee and Board of Selectman where he was an avid supporter of the Millis Fire Department. Christopher was an avid golfer first at Glen Ellen Country Club and then at Foxborough Country Club where he developed countless friendships through his outgoing personality and generous nature. Christopher also enjoyed his family vacations to the Outer Banks in North Carolina and the day trips down to Cape Cod in addition to being a movie buff and an 80’s music fan where his ability to first name the artist and song was legendary. You could also find him watching any of the New England sports teams whether college or pro. Chris also loved his Saint Bernards: Guiness, Trouble and Maverick.

Christopher was predeceased by his father Robert W. Smith, of Falmouth, MA and his father-in-law Henry (Hank) Thorne, originally of Braintree, MA and of Wallingford, PA. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 26 years Beth Smith, of Millis MA, his son Tyler and daughter Mackenzie, his mother Claire of Falmouth, MA, his mother-in-law Olivia of Wallingford, PA, his brother Robb and his wife Lori of Oakland, CA, his brother Jim and his wife Lauma of Falmouth, MA and his brother Scott and his wife Heather of Walpole MA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home at 15 Miller Street in Medfield with a wake on Friday, September 9th from 4-8pm. A service of remembrance will be on Saturday, September 10th at 11am at the Church of Christ, Congregational at 142 Exchange Street in Millis, MA followed by a gathering at Victory Lane in Millis where the family welcomes all of Chris’s friends to join them in celebrating his life.
