Obituary for Dimitrios "Jimmy" Exarhopoulos

Dimitrios “Jimmy” Exarhopoulos of East Walpole, MA, beloved father, papou, brother, and dear friend to many, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, in Athens, Greece. He was 81 years old.

Dimitrios was born in the village of Avgerinos, Greece on May 15, 1941 to the late Ioannis and Athena Exarhopoulos, and grew up in the city of Thessaloniki before immigrating to the UnitedStates in 1967. He eventually settled in Medfield, MA where he raised his family over the next thirty years. He established several successful restaurants in Medfield, Framingham, Dennis and elsewhere, through which he became known and loved by countless loyal customers.

Dimitrios will be remembered for many things, including his radiant smile, joyous laugh, humor, wisdom, generosity, selflessness, positivity, and entrepreneurial spirit. His story exemplifies the American Dream—being born in a rural village high in the mountains of northern Greece, growing up in the city, and ultimately immigrating to this country and building a prosperous life for himself and his family. He dreamed big and achieved so much with unwavering determination, hard work, and patience. He remained a humble man and always highlighted his family, which has grown over the years, as his greatest success. He was an inspiration to all. His legacy will be defined by his family, which was the center of his life and brought him the greatest joy. Dimitrios spent the last weeks of his life in his native country of Greece visiting with family members and longtime friends, focused solely on spending quality time with the people he loved most, free of the distractions of everyday life. All he ever wished for was that everyone be happy, enjoy life, and love each other. If his story needed to have a final chapter, none could be more fitting.

Dimitrios is survived by his three daughters: Maria Behrakis (Sudbury, MA) and her husband Drake; Athena Kalemkeridis (Walpole, MA) and her husband Themis; and Alexis Landry (Walpole, MA) and herhusband Matthew. In addition to his children, he is survived by seven beautiful grandchildren: Ellie, George, Stathis, Zoe, Demetri, James, and Angela, as well as his brother Christos, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that he considered part of his family. He is predeceased by his former wife Zoe Exarhopoulos, his brothers Alexandros and Michalis, and his sister Angeliki.

To know him was to love him and his memory will be eternal.
