Obituary for Elizabeth Rayner "Betty" Hinkley (Scott)
MEDFIELD –Elizabeth R. (Daley) Scott Hinkley, a longtime Medfield resident, died peacefully at home Friday, Sept. 20, surrounded by her family. She was 93. Born Jan. 23, 1926, in Stonehaven, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of Wilfred and Mertie Tate Daley.
Betty moved to the United States in 1954 with her first husband, Hugh Scott, and their two daughters. They settled in Medfield, and later had a third child, a son. After her husband died, she would later go on to remarry. She and her second husband, George Hinkley III, remained in Medfield and had a son together.
In Medfield, Mrs. Hinkley, who was better known to friends and family as Betty, worked for the local police department as a crossing guard. She retired in 1999 after 35 years. In addition, Betty was a lifetime member of the Medfield American Legion and a former member of the First Baptist Church, also in Medfield.
In addition to her second husband, George, Betty is survived by three children, Kay Waller of Florida, Cheryl Beal of Walpole, and George Hinkley IV of Medfield. She also leaves six grandchildren: Valerie Schnarr and her husband, Dan, of Ohio; Donald Beal Jr., David Beal and his wife, Danielle, Brandi Rodriguez and her husband, Walter, all of Walpole; and Audra Scott and Jarred Scott, both of Franklin. And she also leaves eight great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Hugh Scott; her son, Vernon Scott; two brothers, Guy and Hugh Daley; and a sister, Jennie McEwan.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday September 25th at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield.
