Millis —Herbert Penny Stevens, Jr., died Saturday September 14th, 2019 at Framingham Union Hospital.
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Marilyn (Ford White) Stevens; his children from a previous marriage, his son John Stevens, wife Michelle; his son William Stevens and his partner, Brenda; his daughter, Martha Stevens and her partner Andy; his brother Allan Stevens and his wife Jean and his stepchildren Tom, Julie, Ellen, and Beth. He had 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Herb was a long term resident of Millis, MA, moving there in1960 from Framingham. Herb attended the Saw in Academy in Sherborn, MA. He was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Sherborn High School. In 1943, Herb was drafted into the Navy. He served on the USS Denebola, a repair ship for the Atlantic Destroyer Fleet. Herb earned the rank of Fire Controlman,2nd Class. Herb was discharged in March of 1946 and had earned a Star for the Invasion of Southern France, The National Defense Ribbon, the European Ribbon, and the Asiatic Ribbon.
Herb graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Engineering. Herb worked as a Quality Control Engineer at 3C and at Honeywell. Farming was a life-long passion for Herb and in his spare time, he worked at the farm of Louis D ’Angeles in Millis, MA. After retirement, Herb was employed as a groundskeeper at Mass Bay Community College. In addition to farming, Herb loved camping, fishing, and traveling. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family. He was an incredibly loving, patient, and caring soul. All who met him loved him. Herb was a Freemason, a member of American Legion Post 208, and a member of the Acacia Club.
