Obituary for Irene Jane Rhoads (Olintz)
Irene Jane Rhoads
Of Medfield, passed to spirit Friday, November 20, 2020. Born March 2, 1923 to George and Anna Olintz of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was the youngest of 8 children and adored by all her siblings.
After attending High School, she worked as a seamstress for 2 years before enlisting in the United States Navy, Medical Corp., “to go on an adventure!”
Irene met Lawrie Rhoads in 1944, the love of her life. After marrying, they moved several times while raising 3 children; Carol, Charles, and Lynne. They settled in Medfield in 1964 where they stayed until their passings this year, after 75 years of marriage.
Irene’s greatest joy was raising her children. She helped in the operation of their business, FDC Packaging, located in Medfield, MA. She was also an avid gardener; saying “when I get to Heaven I will be in charge of the flowers.”
Her hobbies were sewing and volunteer work. She supported Medfield Animal Shelter, The Senior Center, and the Church of the Advent.
She was known for her quiet and loving nature and will be missed greatly.
She leaves Carol Rhoads of Marion, MA and Chuck and his wife Betty Rhoads of Norfolk, MA, grandson Jeff and wife Jennifer and grandsons Tommy and Nicky of Norfolk, MA, also her granddaughter Katrina and husband Erik and granddaughters Ella and Avery of Arvada, CO. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Lynne and her husband Lawrie.
Her devoted caregivers included Joanne, Mary, Marianne, Sylvanna, Christine and Maddy.
