Obituary for James Congelosi
James R. Congelosi (Jim), went to be with the Lord on December 1st, 2020. He was born the
4th of 5 children on August 19th, 1926 in Stamford, CT to parents Marianna (Fino) and Rosario
Congelosi. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1944 and shortly afterwards entered the
US Army Air Corp where he served overseas in WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946
earning the rank of Sergeant.
On November 22, 1947, he married Rose (Tassone) and raised 2 sons and a daughter. Jim
held a long and distinguished career of 45 years working for The Perkin-Elmer Corporation
(Norwalk, CT) as a salesman in their scientific instrumentation division and ultimately became
the branch manager for their Boston area office (Wellesley, MA).
Jim enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, hunting, and fishing but his true passion
was flying. As a young man, he was an avid private pilot who loved to fly and enjoyed all things
aeronautical. In 1955 just after the devastating Putnam flood that hit the region, Jim piloted with
a photojournalist aboard. As Jim flew, the photojournalist documented and surveyed the areas
affected.
Although never formally trained, Jim was raised around music with a talented, musical family.
Jim enjoyed playing his pedal-pump Hammond organ and accordion. Jim was also talented with
his hands as he often made lamps and birdhouses from whatever pieces of metal or wood he
may have had in his possession. One of his prize projects was a 20 room “condominium” he
built for the birds in the backyard of his longtime Medfield residence.
After the passing of his wife Rose in 1998, Jim relocated to Jupiter, FL where he lived the majority of his remaining retirement years. While in Florida, his home was filled with decorative birds, ducks and roosters
as he enjoyed collecting wood, metal, and ceramic figurines and decoys of all types.
Jim is survived by his 3 children, son Richard (Gloucester, MA), son Jefre and daughter-in-law
Sumei (Estero, FL) and daughter Maryann (Beverly, MA), his 4 grandchildren (Kristen, Nick,
Amanda, and Abigail), a great-granddaughter (Zoe Rose), and his sister Rose (Arlington, TX).
A private funeral service will be held on Monday, December 14th, 2020 at the Roberts Mitchell
Caruso Funeral Home in Medfield Massachusetts.
