Obituary for Joan F Willgohs

WILLGOHS, Joan, F (Corrie), Age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

Born in Queens, New York, She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Monica (Morris) Corrie. Joan was educated at The Mary Lewis Academy and graduated from Mary Immaculate Hospital in 1953 as a Registered Nurse. Working until the age of 72, her career spanned from Virginia to New York and Massachusetts. She described it concisely, as beginning with tending to those afflicted with polio and ending as the night supervisor at a skilled nursing facility (Thomas Upham House, Medfield), and that she did most everything in between. So fitted to her career and nurturing by nature, Joan never turned away a person in need.

She lived for her family. Where they were concerned, there was never a need unanswered, an adventure avoided or an opportunity to gather together missed.

She was a doer, the original hands-on-Mom among many things-she was a den mother, troop leader, fund raiser, active in her children’s schools and activities. Her door was always open to everyone-she looked for opportunities to quietly help and did. Strong willed-she taught by example.

She was active in, and loved her Church-St. Edward’s in Medfield. There was almost no position that she did not hold from sacristan to religious education teacher, Eucharistic Minister and choir member. She and her husband served the youth of the community as CYO directors for many years and because of their service were recognized by the Archdiocese of Boston.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Willgohs. Mother of Kathleen Lively and her husband Brian of Medway, Peter Willgohs and his wife Debra of Tewksbury, Margot "Peg" Trentini and her husband Ronald of Wayland and the late Charles Willgohs, Jr. Sister of Thomas Corrie and his wife Laura of So. Salem, NY and the late Monica Snow, survived by brother in-law Walter Snow. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be Tues, March 12th 10am at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring St, Medfield. Burial to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery. Visiting hours Mon 4-8 at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso FH, 15 Miller St, Medfield
