Obituary for JoAnne S Weake

JoAnne S. Weake, 91, of Framingham, Mass., passed away peacefully on March 22, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Manor after a long illness. She leaves behind a daughter, Wendy (Weake) Joseph of Millis and is predeceased by her son, Jeffrey R. Weake, DDS. JoAnne is survived by her sister, Janet Marble of West Springfield; her niece, Deborah Allen of West Springfield; her nephew, David Marble of Gainesville, Va.; and her daughter-in-law, Karen (Haggerty) Weake of Boston.

A loving grandmother, JoAnne also leaves behind six grandchildren, Andrew Joseph of Worcester, Mark Joseph of Kansas City, Mo., Daniel Joseph of Somerset, N.J., Meghan (Weake) Duffany of Duxbury, Heather (Weake) Fitzgerald of Norton, and Justin Weake of Boston, and nine great grandchildren. JoAnne adored her family and was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

JoAnne was born in Springfield to parents Robert and Mildred A. Simons. She graduated in 1944 from the Technical High School, Springfield with high honors. Her working career began in 1946 in the Springfield area, where she held positions as a bookkeeper, receptionist and bank teller at local businesses. She left the working world in 1952 to dedicate herself to raising her two children.

JoAnne was a 45-year communicant of the Mittineague Congregational Church in West Springfield; the church was a cornerstone of her life. There, she served as a member of the choir, a lector, and member of the Women’s Group.

Outside of church and family, JoAnne was a loyal Red Sox fan and enjoyed knitting, rug hooking, making candy (marzipan and canned jellies being her specialties), cooking, and canning. An avid gardener, each summer she had an impressive vegetable garden.

Services honoring her memory will be held at a later date with details to follow at that time.

A special thank you to the Carmelite Sisters and staff at St. Patrick’s Manor for their exceptional care of JoAnne in her final years. Donations to St. Patrick’s Manor can be made in JoAnne’s memory by visiting http://www.stpatricksmanor.org/fundraising-donations.
