Age 62, of Middletown, CT, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his home. John was raised in Millis, MA by his late parents; father, William J. Olstead (1970), and mother, Patricia M. Olstead (2001). John was the youngest of four children; Karen Rubino, husband Arthur Rubino and son Joseph Rubino of Washugal, WA; Matthew Olstead of Colorado Springs, CO; and the late William Olstead (2007). John will be remembered by his two daughters Stephanie Zancan of Blackstone, MA and Ashley Lipka of Greenfield, MA; their mother Cynthia Barrett; and his grandchildren Victor Zancan, Anthony Zancan, Josephine Lipka and her little sister on-the-way. John traveled the world as an Electrical Engineer and Technical Trainer for Gamewell/Honeywell where he wrote and installed complex fire systems for nearly 30 years and later went on to patent his own innovative program. John will be remembered by his boisterous laugh, wit and outgoing personality; his love for flannel shirts with a good pair of “dungarees”; his joy for sharing stories of his past; and his true passion for music and playing guitar. John’s graveside services will be on Friday, May 7th, 2021 at 1:00pm at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis, MA.
