Obituary for Maria K Mucciaccio

Maria Katherine “Mary” Mucciaccio, passed away at the age of 79 on October 29, 2021, surrounded by her loving son, brother, sister, and extended family at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. She was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Erminia (Routolo) Vozzella. Mary was born in Boston’s North End on May 13, 1942. She contracted polio when she was a year old. As a young child she had several operations during the summer months. She was part of a groundbreaking procedure with the March of Dimes at Children’s Hospital in Boston which was a success. She had a full leg cast for several weeks and was eventually able to be freed from her brace and crutches. Mary enjoyed several childhood summers at the March of Dimes Camp. She was even their posterchild and sat on Frank Sinatra’s lap! She was a meticulous student and graduated from Roslindale High School in 1961. Mary’s first job was at Sandy’s Discount Department Store in West Roxbury with her sister Emily. She worked in clothing, the refreshment area, and served as a cashier and packer to name a few of her job descriptions. She loved the variety. She later went to work for the West Roxbury Crushed Stone Company as a bookkeeper. She met her husband Jack while working at Sandy’s and later married him in August of 1964. They had a wonderful time traveling extensively prior to starting their family. They made their home in Medfield, MA and adopted their son Gerry in December of 1969 and later had Kevin and John. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook, craft, and entertain. She discovered she had a passion for painting, took a few lessons and developed a skill for illustrating boats, flowers, and landscape portraits. The family has many memories of vacationing in Sunapee, NH where her boys enjoyed snowmobiling. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and every year hosted a massive open house on Christmas Eve where everyone was welcome. She was a devout Catholic and attended Mass as often as possible. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother, sister, and aunt who devoted her life to taking care of her two disabled sons Kevin and John, that were born with Muscular Dystrophy. She enjoyed her later years with exceptional TLC residing at The Doolittle Home in Foxboro, keeping her close to family and making many new friends. Survived by her son Gerald J. Mucciaccio; brother Gerald and his wife Mary Vozzella; her sister Emily Olson and her husband Ken, all of Foxboro, MA; her brother-in-law Saverio Pizzano of Boston, MA; sister-in-law Patricia (Vozzella) Koch of Forest Hills, MD; and Jimmy and Judy Mucciaccio brother and sister-in-law of Boyton Beach, FL.
