Passed away peacefully on the afternoon of September 7, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family and wife of 56 years. There will be a private family service held for him at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole, Ma on Saturday September 12, 2020.
Early Years
Marshall was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 20, 1934. He lived in Rockville Centre, Long Island briefly, but his most formative years were spent living in Manhasset, Long Island.
He grew up with his parents John and Rose Rogan, and one brother, Robert Rogan, of New Jersey.
At a very early age, Marshall displayed a rare talent and aptitude for all things electronic. By the age of 12 years, he had already built and assembled his own television and radio.
Electronics were not his only interest, he loved baseball and basketball and was a very valued teammate in both sports for Manhasset High School where he was a star fast ball pitcher. In 1952, his senior year of High School, he was voted by the Review-Star newspaper the “most valuable player” in Nassau County for his outstanding baseball pitching record and for bringing Manhasset just shy of a Western Division Pennant tie with a neighboring town. Marshall enjoyed pitching and playing the game of baseball through his college years at MIT, and even playing semi-pro in Boston after college. Marshall very much enjoyed his high school years and had very fond memories of that time.
Marshall had a lifelong love of jazz. In high school, his proximity to New York City allowed him to venture into NYC with his friends to enjoy the live music, where he witnessed the stars of jazz’s golden age in the numerous clubs operating in the city.
Marshall also had a great love of the mountains and the outdoors. This love was born when he attended summer camp in the Adirondack Mountains, where he eventually became a counselor at Camp Pok-o-Moonshine. He would go on to lead backpacking expeditions through the high peaks region of that range. In his adult years, the Adirondacks was still his preferred vacation spot, where he took his family camping and hiking throughout the region.
After Marshall graduated High School he was accepted and he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge Ma, where he studied Electrical Engineering graduating with a BS from MIT in 1958.
Marshall had an abiding love of comedy and a great sense of humor. Laurel and Hardy, Bob and Ray, Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau, Monty Python and Saturday Night Live were some of his favorites, and he always enjoyed a good laugh.
Later Years
Marshall remained in Boston after graduating MIT, and it was in Boston where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Lucy Freimanis. They resided in Wellesley and Holliston Massachusetts briefly before finally purchasing a home in Medfield, Massachusetts. In Medfield they lived and raised their five children: Carol Rogan of Avon, MA, Christine Davis of New York City, NY, John Rogan of Medfield, MA, Peter Rogan of Hingham, MA, and Elizabeth (Liz) McCarthy of Norwell, MA. He was a proud grandfather of Marshall Davis, John, Charlie and June Rogan and Norah and Luke McCarthy. Marshall loved sitting on his screened in porch and watching the birds at his feeder.
After a brief stint at the Raytheon Corporation, he worked for over 30 years at GTE in Needham, MA, retiring in 1991.
Marshall was a devoted husband and father. Always humble, never boastful, generous, and kind he will live in the hearts of those he loved forever.
