Obituary for Martin Francis "Marty" Kunz
Martin Francis Kunz 1954 –2019Martin Kunz, 65, of Medfield, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, at home with his family by his side. He was born in Palo Alto, California, on August 8, 1954, the son of the late Charles George Kunz and Betty Rose Kunz. He was the beloved husband of JoAnn (Gallagher) Kunz; the devoted father of Heather (Wills) Humberson (Tyler) of Mansfield, Texas; the cherished grandfather of Danika and Everly; and the dear brother of Thomas Kunz (Rosemarie Sweeney) of Durham, North Carolina, Catherine Kunz (Deborah Hepburn)of New Hartford, New York, Jane Kunz of Flat Rock, North Carolina, and Elizabeth Kunz of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Marty was a graduate of the Dover-Sherborn Class of 1972 and later attended evening classes at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He worked for 47 years at Harvard Bioscience in Holliston as a Production Buyer/Planner and Facilities Manager. Marty had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He was happiest when riding his bike, hiking, or walking trails in Medfield and Dover. He climbed Mt. Washington many times, rode his bike daily, especially enjoying long rides to Boston and Cape Cod. One of the most meaningful experiences of his life was sitting on a blanket in a field in Tennessee with JoAnn, observing the 2017 total solar eclipse, an even the had been waiting for since childhood. He also loved meteorology and had a sophisticated weather station at his home where he tracked weather religiously. He took particular pride in his yard and home in Medfield and had a wonderful Christmas light display every year. Marty was a very talented electrician and craftsman who loved completing household projects for his family and friends. He took immense pleasure in doing so, leaving special touches that were so appreciated by those who benefitted from the improvements he made to their homes. More than any of his achievements, Marty is defined by his kind, generous, and giving spirit, representative of his love and reverence for life. His peaceful, meditative, and philosophical approach to life helped him accept his cancer diagnosis and treatment with grace. His true goodness and energetic enthusiasms will continue to inspire and delight all of us, never to be forgotten, remembered gratefully.
