Obituary for Nancy Anne Collins

Nancy Anne (Cullotta) Collins, 73, of Hopedale passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on 4/29/23 after a lengthy illness.

Nancy was born in 1949 to the late Orazio and Lena (Papagno) Cullotta in Natick, MA. After Nancy graduated from Marian High School in Framingham, MA in 1967, she went on to study foreign languages at Regis College, where she graduated in 1971. She taught for over 20 years with the bulk of her career as a foreign language teacher in the Hopedale Public School District. Nancy predominantly taught Spanish throughout her career but also established the German program in the Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School. She loved teaching with all her heart and cherished seeing her former students around town.

Nancy was the beloved wife of Michael Collins, and they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary last August. She adored her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren and supporting them in their activities. She could be found on the sidelines of most fields in both Mendon and Grafton on the weekends cheering them on.

Nancy spent her retired years helping care for her grandchildren, volunteering as a longtime member of the Hopedale Friends of the Library, and tutoring students in foreign languages. She spent many years volunteering at the Milford Food Pantry and the Milford Community Supper as well as being a dedicated parishioner at Hopedale Sacred Heart Church. She had many hobbies including baking, gardening, and spending time with her friends. Nancy loved being a resident of Hopedale and was an active participant in many town activities and events.

In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by a son, Christopher J. Collins and his wife Megan Collins of Mendon; a daughter, Julie Anne Capuzziello and her husband Mark of Grafton; a brother, Paul Cullotta and his wife Jana Stein of Centerville; four grandchildren, Benjamin Collins, Claire Collins, Samuel Capuzziello and Elliot Capuzziello and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 9th at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish 151 Mendon St. Upton, MA. A private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to causes that were near and dear to Nancy’s heart. Hopedale Friends of the Library 50 Hopedale Street, Hopedale, MA 01747
