Obituary for Norma H. Sinatra (Ormsby)

Norma Harriet Sinatra, of Ashburnham, formerly of Cambridge, Salem, and Medfield, passed away on January 12, 2023 at the age of 101. Beloved wife of Edward V. Sinatra (deceased January, 20, 2005), mother of Edward V. Sinatra Jr. formerly of Medfield (deceased January 31, 2005), Paul L. Sinatra formerly of Overland Park, KS (deceased March 21, 2008), Joan Sinatra Hathaway of Ashburnham and Gale M. Sinatra of Altadena, California, grandmother of Michael and Mark Sinatra, AnnMarie Sinatra Campbell, Tyler, Nicholas, and Zachary Hathaway, and great grandmother of Luke, Jack, and George Sinatra, and Olivia and Brooke Hathaway.
Norma was born Norma Harriet Ormsby, daughter of Robert Leonard Ormsby and Harriet Pickard Ormsby in 1921 in Everett, Massachusetts. She had one sister, Rena Marion Ormsby, who preceded Norma in death.
Known as “Gaga” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and “The Purple Lady” (after her favorite color) to her friends, Norma was the life of the party in her younger years and always appreciated the occasional martini. A member of the Greatest Generation, she lived through the Depression as a teen-ager, met her husband at a Cab Calloway concert, and as a young mother with a two-year old son, saw her husband go to war. Like many women of her generation, she was grateful when her husband came home, had three more children and enjoyed the social life of the times. She was a good friend and a good neighbor. Norma’s greatest gift to her children and grandchildren was her sense of humor which she taught all of them to use to get through tough times. A Massachusetts resident for almost all her life, she loved the Red Sox, the Patriots, and the Cape, especially family vacations there.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Norma’s memory can give to the League of Women Voters, PO Box 96837 • Washington, DC 20090, as Norma was born only two years after the passage of the 19th amendment. Burial will be a private ceremony. A celebration of her life will be planned for a future date. For additional information and guest book see. https://www.robertsmitchellcaruso.com
