Peter M. Kelley, 73, a resident of Norton, MA, passed peacefully on May 10, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI, following a car accident earlier in the month. Born in Norwood, MA, on March 14, 1950, he was the beloved son of the late Milton H. Kelley and Evelyn D. (Burton) Kelley. As a young child, Peter lived with his family in Westwood, MA, until the family moved to Medfield, MA. He attended the Medfield school system from first grade on, graduating from Medfield High School in 1968. He then attended Massachusetts Bay Community College and graduated from Framingham State University. Peter taught Physical Education and Health at Dedham Middle School for his entire career. At Dedham High School, he was Head Coach of the boys’ varsity basketball team from 1982 to 1990, as well as a varsity golf coach. From 1997 to 2001, he was Head Coach of the men’s basketball team at Framingham State University. He was also an assistant men’s basketball coach at Bridgewater State University. An avid golfer, Peter was a longtime member and part-time employee of Norton Country Club. He also enjoyed volunteering as an assistant basketball coach at Mansfield High School. Peter took great pride in his home and enjoyed making it a place to relax. Whether it be sitting in his study appreciating his fireplace or lounging in his living room watching the latest ball game, he felt content in his surroundings. He enjoyed working outside and kept his yard in pristine condition. Peter delighted in his family and friends and was always welcomed at their family functions. He was a great companion, fun to be around, and enjoyed a good conversation. He will be missed by all of those who loved him. He is survived by his sister Judith M. Johnson and her husband Donald of Medfield, MA; sister Susan A. Brindley and her husband Charles of Norfolk, MA; brother Howard A. Kelley and his wife Valerie of Barrington, RI; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy E. Chitty of Norfolk, MA, and her husband Gordon.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday June 3rd 11am at the Federated Church of Norfolk, 1 Union St, Norfolk.
