Obituary for Rachel Brown (Coward)

Rachel Brown (Coward) died unexpectedly on May 30th, 2022 in Holliston, MA. She was 59.

Rachel was born in County Surrey, England on November 3rd, 1962 to Jean and Derek Coward, and moved with her family to the United States in 1976. In 1984 she graduated from Babson College, where she met her husband, Stephen. Rachel developed a career in compensation consulting, retiring at age 50 to pursue her passion for riding horses. She competed successfully in several regional competitions, and was a valued and loved member of the Kilkern Farm family.

Highly active in the Medfield community, Rachel served on multiple town committees, from the Personnel Board to the Solid Waste Committee. She was deeply involved with the United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School and helped coordinate fundraising drives for Heifer International.

Rachel was a firecracker personality who left a lasting impression on all who met her. Generous with her time, extremely passionate in any cause she took up, and with an undeniable wit, she worked tirelessly to hold her family and community together. She was an avid traveler, having touched five continents through family vacations and her extensive volunteer efforts. Everyone who knew her knew of her boundless love of family and friends, Jane Austen novels, Bollywood musicals, and her horse, Gigi.

She leaves behind her husband of 35 years, Stephen Brown; her beloved son Brian of Boston, MA; her mother, Jean Coward of Needham, MA; her sister, Sarah Iszler of Tucson, AZ; ten nieces and nephews who she loved intensely; and a constellation of extended family and friends.

A viewing will be held on June 12th from 3-6PM at Roberts-Mitchell-Caruso Funeral Home, at 15 Miller St. in Medfield. Funeral services will be held at the United Church of Christ at 496 Main St., Medfield, MA at 10AM on June 13th.
