Obituary for Richard E. Allan

Passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2021, surrounded by his wonderful family. He was 90 years old.
Born on May 11, 1931 in Morrisville, VT, Richard was the son of the late Everett Lyman and Dorotha Muriel (Seaver) Allan.
Richard grew up in Morrisville where he attended and graduated from People’s Academy. Immediately following, he distinguished himself with service to his country by enlisting in the United States’ Navy, which he turned into a 22 year career.
While stationed in Quanset Point, Rhode Island he became friendly with a man named John Newell. John introduced him to his sister Marcia whom he married on June 21, 1958 in Medfield. Travelling with the Navy, Richard and Marcia began raising their 3 daughters, and then finally settled in Medfield.
Richard was active around town as a member of the American Legion Post 110 for whom he served as chaplain. And he was also a member at A.F. & A.M. in Westwood.
Later in life Richard and Marcia enjoyed travelling to his “Happy Place”, The Dominican Republic. They tried to go every year. Richard loved being in the sun and the water, and just relaxing with a good book on the beach. He was an avid reader.
Besides his beloved Marcia, Richard is survived by his daughters Karen Allan of Chelmsford, Nancy O’Neil and her husband Kevin of Medfield, and Janet Allan of Attleborough. He was also blessedwith 2 Grandchildren, Mark Auld and his wife Beth of Millville and Laura Hassell and her husband Jeff of Attleborough. He loved to spend time with them and with all of his great grandchildren Jaelin, Brian, Michaela, Jayce, Jaylynn, and Jaylianna. Richard also is survived by his sister, Ramona Audet, of Morrisville, Vermont, but was sadly predeceased by his brother Everett Allan, Jr. and his sisters Elise Patnoe and Patricia Rockwood.
