Obituary for Richard M. "Rick" Davidson

Richard M. “Rick” Davidson, 75, passed away on Monday April 17, 2023, after a courageous fight with an illness. Born in Boston, MA, he was the youngest son of the late Robert J. Davidson and Hazel E. (Bishop) Davidson.

Rick attended Medfield High School and was a member of the Warrior football team before graduating in 1965. Following high school, Rick served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973.

Following his military service, Rick returned to Medfield where he worked as a gifted and sought after mechanic. He worked at Crocker & Johnson Sunoco for many years and most recently was a proud member of the team at Floyd & Glenn’s where he built not only a loyal clientele but an incredible group of friends.

In his free time, Rick loved a good project. These typically involved fixing and rebuilding things that he and his family could enjoy. He loved a good challenge, and you never knew what idea would cross his mind next. From cars to lawnmowers, skid steers and boats he took great pride in turning other people’s trash into treasures. His face would light up while telling you about how he got something to work and what he planned on doing next.

Above all, Rick was devoted to his family. A proud husband, father and grandfather, family came first which could be seen in everything he did. He grew up with and married his best friend, the love of his life, Sandy, in 1970 and shortly thereafter started a family. As a Dad, Rick taught his boys to be respectful and kind. He was always there to help with that difficult math homework, to teach you how to drive, especially a manual transmission, and he was there for every significant milestone whether it was a soccer game, school concert performance or graduation. As a grandfather, Rick got to share his playful side building pillow forts during sleepovers and go carts for racing around the backyard. His grandsons loved their “Bub.” Rick was truly selfless and always focused on how he could help and care for his family who meant the world to him.

He is survived by his childhood best friend, high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Sandra (Grover) Davidson, his sons John Davidson of Medfield and Scott Davidson and his wife, Lori of Natick, his grandsons Matthew Davidson and Kaden Davidson of Natick, his brother Randy and his wife Sue of Delaware and his nieces and nephews Jeffrey Davidson, Jennifer Riddell, Mandy Strittmatter and PJ Strittmatter.

At Richard’s request, services will be private. Condolences may be left at www.robertsmitchellcaruso.com In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rick Davidson may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
