Obituary for Richard A. "Dick" Ostrander

Richard “Dick” Ostrander, 84, of Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Medfield, passed away peacefully on January 15th at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital.

He was born in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Katherine Ostrander-Gelzinis. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airplane Mechanic at Graham Air Base.

Dick resided in Medfield for 41 years and was the owner and operator of Ostrander Construction Co. He was a skilled and talented finish carpenter, and his passion was designing, building and remodeling homes in the area.
During his retirement years, Dick could be found in “the shop” creating exquisite, handcrafted furniture, wooden turned bowls and Shaker oval boxes. He was also a member of the Aquidneck Island Striper Team and he loved spending time on his boat trying to catch fish.

He leaves behind his loving daughter, Debra Ostrander, of Bellingham, who will miss him more than ever.
Debra wishes to thank Brigham and Woman’s Hospital for the compassion and kindness shown to her Dad.
Graveside services will be held with military honors at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dick’s memory to the Portsmouth, RI Fire/EMS, 2300 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
