Obituary for Robert "Bob" Agricola
Robert (Bob) Agricola of Block Island, RI died on February 23, 2021 while residing at his daughter Kim’s home in Medfield. He was born in Schenectady, NY, in 1936. He is survived by his five children, Robin, Bambi, Kim, Amy, Peter, their spouses, and eleven terrific grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Martha, who he lovingly cared for during her lengthy illness.
After retiring, Bob was active in several volunteer organizations on Block Island. He and his young family lived in affordable housing for several years while he finished his college degree, and as a result of that experience, he was committed to helping others obtain affordable housing. As a charter member of the Block Island Housing Board, he worked hard to help envision and create housing opportunities for local families. He served two terms on the Board and, in subsequent years, continued to confer, consult and advocate for year-round housing on Block Island. He was also on the Block Island Economic Development Foundation board and more recently worked with the Senior Advisory Committee.
Bob was a wonderful dad, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and he looked forward to having his family visit his Block Island and Bonita Springs, FL homes. He worked hard to give his kids things he never dreamed of for himself. His horse-crazy daughters had horses because he built them a barn and paddock. He spent countless weekends installing an inground pool himself and doing many other projects. Although his children remember him as a strict father while they were growing up, his grandchildren knew him only as a big softie who was very loving, generous, and incredibly proud of them.
Bob had an undergraduate degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Columbia University. He retired from AT&T after 34 years and spent a number of years working as a consultant for Argyle Associates of New Canaan, CT.
The family will have a private remembrance at a later date. In honor of Bob's commitment to affordable housing, donations in his memory may be made to the Block Island Housing Board, Box 220, Block Island, RI 02807
