Obituary for Robert W Anderson

Robert W Anderson, 96, of Medfield MA, formerly of Millis MA, Boca Raton FL, and Celina, TX, passed away on March 25, 2023. Born in Waltham, MA, the eldest son of John W and Elizabeth van Demark Anderson. Robert, known as Bob, was a graduate of Needham High School and Boston University. In 1947 Bob, his father John and brother Richard founded Anderson’s Jewelers of Wellesley Ma. where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Bob was a member of the New England Jewelers Association, and a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Wellesley MA.

Bob was an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout Troop leader, a 4H Gardening Club leader, a World War 11 Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific as signalman 2nd Class. Bob was an avid traveler, touring many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa & South America. Bob was proud of his achievements of visiting all 50 U.S. states. Bob, an accomplished hiker, climbed many mountains, including Mt Washington, hiked the Grand Canyon, all 216 miles of the John Muir Trail in CA, Mt Kilimanjaro, and to the base camp of Mt Everest. His love of the outdoors and travel was passed on to his five children and their families. He had a curious mind, a love of adventure and had a positive outlook on life. He loved people, attending church, reading his Bible, and chocolate ice cream. He was proud of his Finnish heritage.

Bob leaves behind Evelyn Anderson, the mother of his five children: Cheryl England and her husband Fred, William Anderson and his wife Kathleen, Vickie Mancini and her husband Alan, Neil Anderson and his wife Rosalyn, Kurt Anderson and his wife Kathleen, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, his sister Audrey Jewell and her husband Al and brother Ronald Anderson and his wife Martha. Bob was predeceased by his brother Richard and his wife Patricia. He was the husband of the late Esther Farida (Rhehan} Anderson and is survived by his step-children Ayaz Mahmud and his wife Lori, Roomi Mahmud, Khayyam Mahmud and his wife Salma, Sonia Jahangir and her husband Jahangir, and Tammie Anderson Mahmud, 8 step- grandchildren and 3 step- great grandchildren.

The Anderson family would like to thank the staff of the Thomas Upham House in Medfield for their wonderful care during Bob’s stay there the past 9 months.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Sunday, April 30 at the Federated Church, Ashland MA. A private interment at Bourne National Cemetery with full military honors will take place at a later date.
