Obituary for Roger S. Sweeney

Roger Shaw Sweeney,age 81,of Medfield died peacefully at home on July 8,2021.
Beloved husband of Connie (Bishop) Sweeney for 55 years.Proud father and father-in-law of Brandon and Lisa Sweeney of Menlo Park,CA and Barry and Melanie Sweeney of Wilson, ID. Enthusiastic Grampa to Kailyn, Kathryn, Megan and Bennett.Survived by his sisters, Suzanne Oates of Watertown and Linda Sullivan of Marlborough. Roger is predeceased by his parents Rose and George Sweeney and brothers James and Justin.
Growing up in Arlington he graduated from Matignon High School and Boston College,Class of ’61. After college he volunteered as a lay apostolate at a Jesuit program teaching English History in Annotto Bay,Jamaica.Upon returning to Boston after one year, he joined the US Air Force Reserves. He launched his career in Property & Risk Management Insurance at Employers Group in Norwood. He specialized in the pulp and paper, mining, steel and pharmaceutical industries and lived in Montreal, Vancouver and St. Louis before returning to Boston and joining Frank B Hall. He enjoyed a long-time membership at Walpole Country Club.Roger spent his life connecting with people and made many special and lasting friendships which he nurtured and cherished throughout the years. His quick wit, his generosity towards others,his ability to always see the best in people, his kindness and his love of country will be most remembered by those who knew him.In lieu of flowers, Roger was a long-time supporter of St Francis House, 39 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02116(www.stfrancishouse.org) and The Greater Boston Food Bank,70 South Bay Ave, Boston, MA 02118(www.gbfb.org)
