I have many wonderful memories of Rosa,
I miss her kisses on my hand each day,... we were always happy to see each other. One funny memory I have was when the state was in doing our annual survey and the woman was following me around making sure I was doing my job correctly and Rosa said something to me in Spanish so I got a cna to translate for me and she said in front of the surveyor, “ Rosa says your hair looks crazy today” 🤣😂 we all laughed!
Rosa had the most loving family and was always so well cared for. It was such an honor to get to know Rosa and to care for her and I will miss seeing Claudia and her family visiting TUH. Please accept my warmest condolences to your family. I will always remember Rosa ♥️😘

Today our family remembers and honors Rosita. Rosita’s legacy is one of generosity, humility, and compassion. In her kindness and her selflessness, she lived with faith and steadily followed in the path of Christ. Throughout her life she asked for little but gave much.

Though Rosita did not have children of her own, she acted as a surrogate mother to many of us here today. Over the course of her life she helped to care for generations of Gamba children and relatives, including her mother, Susana, in the final years of her life. So many of us have fond memories of times that she played with us, tended to us, and indulged us with sweet carrot juice and savory arepitas. Whether in Colombia, Massachusetts, California or Texas, she was a pillar of support for all of our families throughout the stages of our lives. When I was young she would travel to Medfield to watch over my sisters and me. Even all these years later, she always referred to my sister Dana as “my baby”. She was a true matriarch of the Gamba family and we are eternally grateful for her love and care.

Our family is also indebted to Rosita for the many sacrifices that she made for us throughout her life, without conditions or expectations. It was in large part because of her efforts, sponsorship, and funding that so many of her siblings, nieces and nephews, were able to immigrate to this country. She went so far as to collect soda cans to raise money for the family. Needless to say, many of us including myself would not be here today were it not for those efforts. Our families have blossomed and thrived as a result of the seeds she helped to plant so many years ago.

Rosita had a giving and selfless spirit, but in her dedication to our family she also demonstrated courage and purpose. Like her mother and siblings, she had a vision for this family, full of hope and promise. It is impressive to reflect on how far our family has come over the course of Rosita’s lifetime. In the pursuit of a better life her mother Susana moved the family from the farmlands of Colombia to the small city of Armero to become small business owners. Eventually the family moved again to find opportunity in Bogota, and finally onto the United States in the 1960s and 70s. Today our family spans across this country, as well as South America and Europe. The progress we have achieved as a family was paid for with years of perseverance and determination.

The vision for a better life with more opportunities did not end with simply being in the United States. In the subsequent decades Rosita was an active citizen, always working, voting and embracing education for herself and for her family. I remember that she would borrow my chapter books to read when I was young. Even though English was her second language and she was retired by then, she continued reading into the later years of her life. The opportunity for us to create better lives for ourselves through education is something that she never took for granted. With this in mind, I think we would all agree that our successes and triumphs are also hers.

Our family will miss Rosita dearly, but we will always remember her for her kindness, love and unselfish dedication to this family. We will be forever thankful to her for the many contributions she made to us over the course of her life. She cherished each of us as dearly as we cherished her. By her example we can learn what it means to lead a Christian life with a lifelong commitment to God.
