Ruth Catherine Campbell of E. Falmouth, Massachusetts and formerly Medfield, Massachusetts died peacefully on May 15, 2021 at the age of 92 after a lengthy illness.
A devoted wife, she is predeceased by her late husband, Edward G. Campbell. A loving mother, she is survived by her sister, Catherine Doucet and also by her four children, Sheila Birney and her husband Robert, Edward G. Campbell Jr., Laurie Hanrahan and her husband John and Brenda Campbell. She was “Grammy Ruth” to 15 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren along with numerous other loving members of her extended family.
Ruth received her nursing diploma from St. Elizabeth’s School Of Nursing and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Boston College. After raising her family she returned to the field and spent over 20 years as a school nurse in Medfield’s public school system. Proud of her career in nursing, Ruth loved all the school children she cared for and was always happy to meet a fellow nurse and share stories of her early nursing days. Her fellow “St. E’s” graduates were wonderful friends whom she cherished throughout her life.
Friends and family are what brought Ruth her greatest happiness, she was a friend to all. Ruth always looked forward to attending family gatherings. She loved music, live performances, travel, and spending time outside playing tennis or at the beach or in her yard on the Cape. Her kids benefited from her love of the arts and nature as Ruth took them to many plays, musical performances and outdoor excursions as children. And every summer it was swimming lessons for all! And every winter a walk to the local pond for a skating outing! Thanks to our Mom, the Campbell kids can all swim and skate and paddle a canoe! She made her kid’s childhoods a great adventure each summer and winter, memories of time spent with her now treasured.
