Obituary for Ruth Dixon

Ruth was born on August 10, 1923 to Bertha and Ralph Dixon. She was a life-long residence of Millis. Ruth graduated from Millis High school and Nyack College in New York to pursue a nursing career.

She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Harold, Richard Sr., Kenneth and her nephew Randy. She leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Ralph, Robert, Richard Jr., Sheila (Dixon) Nelson, Bonnie (Dixon) Addison, David and Peter. She also leaves behind numerous grand nieces and nephews, as well as, an extensive church family.

Ruth was a woman of faith and religiously attended Emanuel Baptist Church in Norfolk. Ruth was an avid bicycle rider at times riding for many miles, which she was quite proud of. Ruth also enjoyed Easter Sunrise services (her favorite holiday), going to Bible Study groups, singing hymns, going to the Senior Center, and gardening.

Church and nursing were a large part of her life. So in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to The Emanuel Baptist Church of Norfolk, The Christian Voice or your local food bank.

She will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery at a private burial. A memorial service and a celebration of Ruth’s life will be at a later date when we are able to gather.
