BRENNAN, Sarsfield Patrick of Hull, MA, age 85, formerly of Medfield, MA on January 2, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife Frances, their three children Thomas Brennan and his wife Michele of Hanover, Matthew Brennan and his wife Rosanne of Bedford, and Joanna Brennan of Charlestown. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Fionna, Alex, Hailey, and Ruby. He was the brother of Paul Brennan, Peter Brennan, and the late Margaret Bailey and Daniel Brennan. Before retiring to Hull, Sarsfield and Frances lived in the Charlestown Navy Yard, and Medfield, where they raised their children. While in Medfield, Sarsfield served on the Town Planning Board and Building Committee for St. Edward’s Church. He coached little league baseball for many years, and later served as President.

Sarsfield was born in Queens, NY, attended Bishop Loughlin High School, and then the University of Notre Dame. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was also a Middleweight Golden Gloves champion in Notre Dame’s legendary Bengal Bouts boxing tournament. After college, he served as a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War. Early in Sarsfield’s Civil Engineering career, while with Brown Engineering, he moved from Queens to Trinidad with Frances and young sons Tom and Matt to manage an office. They lived in Trinidad for four years, in which time daughter Joanna was born, before settling in Medfield. For many years, Sarsfield was project manager at various Engineering firms in Boston, including Tippetts-Abbot-McCarthy-Stratton, Stone and Webster, and Jacobs. Sarsfield and Frances also lived in Stamford, CT and Houston, TX for short stints during his long career. Sarsfield managed many highway projects in Massachusetts and New York, including the Speen Street “Beetleback” in Natick, Penn Station renovation in Manhattan, and portions of the Central Artery “Big Dig” project in Boston. When Sarsfield and Frances retired to Hull, Sarsfield continued to consult on transportation projects, while attaining a real estate license and tax preparer license. For over thirty years, Sarsfield volunteered at St. Francis House homeless shelter in Boston and continued until just a few years ago. He also spent many years driving for Meals on Wheels and delivering bread to Rosie’s Place, a homeless shelter for women in Boston. Sarsfield loved spending time with his children and grandchildren at their home in Hull, a block from Nantasket Beach.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street in Medfield. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 8th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwards the Confessor Church, 133 Spring Street, Medfield. Burial with full military honors to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.
