Obituary for Virginia A "Ginnie" Cusack

The family of Virginia (Ginnie) Ann Cusack (nee Campisi) sadly announce her departure from this world on October 22, 2022.
Ginnie was born on January 21, 1937 in Waltham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1954 and Framingham State Teachers’ College in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Francis (Frank) J. Cusack; together, they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
In addition to Frank, Ginnie is survived by their three children: Tracy and her husband Timothy O’Leary of Yarmouth Port, MA; Francis (Skip) Cusack Jr. and his wife Deidre of Wilmington, NC; and Nancy and her husband Eric Kessler of Clemmons, NC; as well as seven grandchildren: Taylor O’Leary of Braintree, MA and Toren O’Leary of South Boston, MA; Kathleen Cusack of Asheville, NC and Maeve Cusack of Houston, TX; and Matthew Kessler of Matthews, NC, Merrideth and her husband Andrew Harrison of Clemmons, NC, and Mitchell Kessler of Apex, NC. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Shea of Hingham, MA, and many nieces and nephews, as well as two sisters, Linda Scola of Plymouth, MA and Judy Cousens and her partner Warren Smith of Naugatuck, CT; and is predeceased by a sister Rosemary Waters and her parents, Rosario and Maria Campisi.
Ginnie enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She and Frank first settled in Framingham, MA and spent a year abroad in Enschede, the Netherlands, but they called Medfield, MA home. It is there they raised their family and eventually retired. They later moved to Norfolk, MA, but kept close ties with their many Medfield friends. Ginnie was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain, and each year she and Frank would host a lively White Elephant Auction, festive family holiday parties, and countless other gatherings. They were active in a long-running Mystery Club, organized high school reunions, and never missed the annual gathering of friends in their chosen second home, Mattapoisett, MA. Ginnie was also a long-standing member of the Hannah Adams Womens’ Club, Questers, a local book club, Norfolk Together charitable organization, the Medfield Senior Center, and Framingham State Alumni Assoc., for which she served as president. She was a keen bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups throughout the years. In the 1970s, she wrote and published a guidebook for newcomers to the town of Medfield. Ginnie was also an accomplished artist who enjoyed horseback riding, ice skating, tennis, cross-country skiing, and watching her beloved Masterpiece Theater.
Ginnie and Frank traveled all over the world together. While they visited many countries over the years, their favorite trips were to visit their grandchildren, who affectionately call them “Grinny” and “Grucky” and looked forward to their visits. They attended every high school and college graduation for all of their grandchildren, as well as many more of their important moments. From spelling bees to clogging recitals to soccer games, Grinny and Grucky have always been the biggest fans in the crowd.

Ginnie was very proud of her teaching career. Her first class of students even attended her wedding in 1959. After raising her own family, she returned to the profession as a teacher at Wheelock School in Medfield. Later, she worked as an administration professional for Nova Biomedical until retiring in 1999.
She will be greatly missed by the family and many friends she leaves behind.

A wake will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield, MA. The funeral will be Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 133 Spring St., Medfield, with burial to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery,
