MEDFIELD –Walter (Wally) F. Shackley, a longtime Medfield resident, died peacefully at the Thomas Upham House Friday, Sept. 27. He was 87.
Born October 7, 1931, in Norwood, Massachusetts. Wally was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Sissy) Shackley of 52 years and loving father of the late Therese Ann Shackley.
Wally was the sole proprietor of Shackley’s Airport Service formerly Medfield Towne Taxi, a Lifetime member of the Amvets and American Legion, Longtime member of the Lions Club, Lions Citizen of the Year. He donated champagne for the Seniors Christmas party for many years, managed a little league team –the Red Sox. He loved those boys and helped to shape their lives. He contributed to all activities in town and always helped when called upon. He and Sis opened their home to anyone in need and they made everyone feel so welcome and part of their family. How do you measure a man? By the way he treats his fellow man, he was and will always be in our hearts, a man for all seasons.
Wally is survived by his brother George Shackley of Norfolk and his wife the late Eileen Shackley, the late Norman Shackley and his wife Pearl of Tennesee, sister-in-law Mary Willey and her husband James of Bellingham, sister-in-law Maureen Kurtowicz and her husband Peter of South Yarmouth, sister-in-law Hazel McCarthy of Millis, and sister-in-law Ruth McCarthy of Dennisport. He also leaves many nieces and nephews that loved him very much.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday October 2nd 10-12 followed by a prayer service at 12 at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home,15 Miller St., Medfield. Burial to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery.
