Obituary for William J Costa

William Joseph Costa, formerly of Millis, Uxbridge and North Conway, NH passed peacefully into eternal rest on August 25, 2021. Bill was the son of the late William N. Costa and Lillian (Costa) Jacobs. He grew up in Provincetown where he met and married (the late) Helen McCaffrey Costa. He graduated from Provincetown High School, Harvard College where he was R.O.T.C., and received his Master’s in Administration from Bridgewater State College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant on a minesweeper during the Korean War. After the service he became a teacher, principal, and ended his career as the Superintendent of Schools at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, Massachusetts. All of his staffs and students loved and respected him, and many of them still stop and tell stories about his days in education.
However, his greatest joy in life and what mattered most to him was his family. He adored his daughters, grandchildren, and great-children. He liked nothing better than family celebrations and spending time with as many family members as possible as often as he could. He loved to go on day trips with his family, babysit his new great-grandson, and read. He was so proud of all of his daughters, grand and great grandchildren. Everyone in the family knew how much he loved all of them.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, as well as his daughter, Mary Kristen, his sister Ruth, and his parents. He leaves behind his children, Colleen Costa McLaughlin of Harwich, Kerin Hager and her husband Harold of Uxbridge, Kelly Costa Sardella and her husband Chris of Hudson, Kristi Lahaise of Medfield, and Kara Vandersluis and her husband Dale of Whitinsville, as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home in Millis, MA from 4pm-7pm. A mass of Catholic burial will be held at St.Thomas the Apostle Church in Millis, MA at 10:30 am on Friday, September 3, 2021.
