Obituary for Winifred Ann Kelly (Barbetti)

Winifred Ann Kelly, 85, died Monday morning, February 21, 2022, peacefully at home. Winnie is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Colonel Peter J. Kelly (Ret) and her four children, Michael and Cait Kelly of Naples, FL, Daniel and Suzanne Kelly of Raleigh, NC, Deborah Kelly Denman of Milford, MA and Pamela and James Walker of Salem NH, as well as 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Floyd Barbetti of Weston, MA and her brothers Floyd Barbetti Jr. of Weston, MA and Thomas Barbetti of Framingham, MA, and leaves behind of her loving sisters Arlene Orfice, Eleanor Hagan, Carol Allen and Marilyn Surette. She was loved deeply and will be missed by all.

Winnie attended the Chandler School after graduating from Weston High School, and went on to work at Boston College library, where she met her beloved. She held many executive secretarial roles, retiring from Raytheon in 1993.

Winnie had a wonderful gift of being ever present to her family and friends. As an Army officer’s wife she fulfilled the many responsibilities and duties of that role but found time to be an active volunteer in the many communities in which they lived, while never missing her children’s sports and other activities. All the while, serving as an enduring force of love, warmth, and support for her family and many friends.

She and Peter were avid travelers, traveling throughout the United States and much of Europe and Asia, but she most enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.

We are grateful to the Julia Ruth House and their caring staff, where Winnie spent time socializing in recent years, as well as Sylvia Kay and Ariel Hamlin who provided care for Winnie with love and dignity.

Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022 from 4 to 7pm at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home in Medfield, MA. The funeral mass will be Saturday February 26, 2022 at Saint Edward Church, Medfield, MA at 10am. In lieu of flowers Peter and family suggest a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or at https://act.alz.org/, or by clicking the link below.
