Of Millis, on Monday, March 23, 2020, at Norwood Hospital. She was 86 years old.
Marcia was a woman of faith and an active member of the community.
She was a member of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal in Medfield, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Millis. She was a member of the Altar Guild, and the Women’s Group, and she volunteered at the Thrift Shop.
Marcia graduated from Needham High school. She spent most of her married life in Millis. She was the beloved wife of the late F. Richard DeFanti. In Millis, they raised their family; two girls and two boys. She worked at John Hancock in the 1950s and then Herman Shoe in the 1980s.
Marcia had many interests about which she was passionate. She loved all types of music and was always encouraging young people to play musical instruments.
She was an active member of the Millis Senior Center where she played Scrabble, put together jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed the sing-a-longs. Her other interests included gardening, reading, and studying her family’s genealogy.
She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and was a great supporter of the local animal shelters.
Marcia was the daughter of the late Warren and Enid (McClare) McLeod. She was the proud mother of Karen Mortimer of Millis, Anita Sadek-Lappen and her husband Woody of Millis, Edward R. DeFanti and his wife Kathleen of Norton and David W. DeFanti and his wife Susan of Texas. She was also the doting Grandmother of Kelsey Mortimer, Sharif Sadek, Elizabeth, Sarah, Amelia and Abigail DeFanti. Marcia was predeceased by her twin sister, Ellen, and her older sister, Anne. She always enjoyed the company of her nieces and nephews and their families. Marcia also leaves behind her beloved pup, Lexi, who gave her great company and joy.
There will be a private burial for the family in the coming days. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be announced after the public gathering restrictions are lifted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marcia’s name may be made to the Friends of Millis Council on Aging at 900 Main Street, Millis, MA 02054, or to the Purrfect Cat Shelter, at https://www.purrfectcatshelter.org/onlinedonations.
